Help & Getting Started

Record your first meeting, set permissions, and fix common issues. Still stuck? Email info@coniferous.dev.

Getting started

NoteV1 records your meetings and writes the notes. No account needed.

1. Download NoteV1 and open it.

2. Grant the microphone permission it asks for (see Permissions).

3. Optionally connect your calendar to see upcoming meetings.

4. Press record. NoteV1 captures, transcribes, and writes up the notes.

On macOS, transcription runs on your device, so audio never leaves it. See Privacy.

Permissions

Grant these on first launch or later in system settings. Prompts differ by OS.

macOS

Microphone: capture audio (required).

Screen Recording: capture system audio and screenshots.

Calendar: show upcoming meetings (optional; full-access prompt on macOS 14+).

Notifications: meeting reminders (optional).

Speech Recognition: on-device transcription.

Skipped a prompt? Re-enable it in System Settings → Privacy & Security, then restart NoteV1.

Windows (beta)

Microphone: Windows prompts the first time you record.

Calendar: connect Google or Microsoft by signing in through your browser (optional).

Windows doesn't use screen capture yet, so there's no screen-recording permission. See Windows beta for what else differs.

Privacy & where your data lives

On macOS, everything stays on your device: audio, transcripts, and notes. Nothing is uploaded, and there's no account.

On Windows (beta), transcription runs in the cloud, so audio is sent out to be transcribed. On-device support is coming.

Read the full Privacy Policy for details.

Troubleshooting

No audio captured

Confirm NoteV1 has microphone permission.

To capture the other side of a call on macOS, also grant Screen Recording, then restart.

Check the right input device is selected and not muted.

Transcription isn't working

On macOS, the first run may download a speech model, so give it a moment.

On Windows, transcription needs an internet connection. Check you're online.

Quiet or distant audio transcribes poorly. Move closer or raise the input level.

Stuck on an old version

NoteV1 updates at launch and every ~12 hours. Quit and reopen to force a check.

If an update downloaded, fully quit and reopen to install it.

Still stuck? Reinstall the latest build from the download page.

Windows beta

The Windows app is a beta. Recording, transcription, and notes all work. Compared to macOS, it currently:

Transcribes in the cloud, not on-device.

Doesn't capture your screen.

Has no menu-bar countdown or pre-meeting popup.

Doesn't auto-detect unscheduled meetings.

Connects calendars via Google or Microsoft sign-in.
